Loco Coco's Tacos | Our Story

Family, tacos, and the heart of Kittery

Loco Coco's Tacos has been a gathering place in Kittery, Maine since 2004 — built on authentic recipes, generous portions, and a welcome that keeps people coming back.

Loco Coco's opened in 2004 on Walker Street, just a stone's throw from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard — a modest takeout spot that brought authentic Mexican food to a stretch of Maine coast that needed it. What started as a handful of high-tops grew into a full cantina with a screened patio that fills up fast on summer nights.

When the chance to buy Loco Coco's came up in 2021, cousins Jami and Doug Scardina didn't hesitate. Jami had spent eight years as general manager — she knew every regular, every recipe, and every corner of the kitchen. Doug brought decades of business experience, and together they kept the place exactly what Kittery loved about it: family-run, unpretentious, genuinely good.

Corn tortillas loaded with your choice of filling, topped with fresh cilantro and white onion, served with tomatillo salsa and a squeeze of lime. Eater Maine named them among the best tacos in the state — one bite explains why.

Birria Taco Tuesday draws people in from across the Seacoast for slow-braised specialty tacos — get there early, they sell out. The menu goes well beyond tacos: stuffed burritos, 16+ house-made margaritas, Sunday brunch, and daily specials keep regulars coming back.
